Orange Colnago Mexico
I found this 1979 Mexico on Ebay a couple of years ago and purchased it even though it was not my size because it was a rare model (made with thin wall KL tubing) and was in such exceptional shape.
The story on the bike is interesting. The original owner got the bike in late '79 and rode it all of 1980. At the end of the year he got a new team bike and retired this bike. He later had it refinished at CyclArt in spectacular Molteni Orange and hung a new Super Record group on it. The parts included some unique items such as a Regina SL freewheel, Cinelli VIP Giro d’Italia bar (white leather wrapped) and stem, genuine vintage TA chrome water bottle cage w/Campy bolts and washers, an ultra-rare Campy Hi-Low rear hub, Ambrosio Synthesis rims (spokes are butted ACI), and Campy toe clips w/Binda Extra toe straps and Colnago end buttons. The bike was then retired to display status.
I decided I wanted to ride my vintage bikes more and started switching to those in my size. I purchased another complete Mexico in my size. I also found an NOS Colnago RDV frame in my size and swapped the complete running gear package from the Orange Mexico to the RDV frame and sold the frame in 2007 to one of the folks at Cane Creek components.
