Colnago Roger De Vlaeminck
The Colnago Roger De Vlaeminck was a very limited production model in the Super line made in the early to mid 1980’s to honor one of Colnago’s most famous riders. For more information on De Vlaeminck see the article in the April 2008 issue of Cycle Sport America.
I purchased the frame and fork in 2007 from a seller in Belgium. The frame/fork were NOS and had never been built up.
I had a 1979 Colnago Mexico I had acquired in 2006 that was not my size. It was raced for a year by the original owner after he purchased it new. He then swapped the running gear to another frame, installed brand new running gear on the Mexico (which also then received a full CyclArt restoration), and the bike was retired to display status. The running gear on the bike was virtually new when I purchased the complete bike.
I took all of the “new” running gear from the display bike (and sold the frame) and installed it on the NOS RDV frame. The parts included a Campagnolo Super Record group (with SL pedals and an NR BB)and some really unique items such as a Regina SL freewheel, Cinelli VIP Giro d’Italia bar (white leather wrapped) and stem, genuine vintage TA chrome water bottle cage w/Campy bolts and washers, and an ultra-rare Campy Hi-Low rear hub. The rims are Ambrosio Synthesis and spokes are butted ACI. Campy toe clips w/Binda Extra toe straps (Colnago end buttons). I installed a new Selle San Marco Rolls saddle, new tubular tires, NOS blue rubber Campagnolo shift lever covers, and new white cable housings/cables when I built up the frame.
I sold the bike in 2008 to Rodd Wagner, the owner of Branford Bike.
