LeMond TVT World Championship Replica
This bicycle is #47 out of only 300 total that were made by LeMond Bicycles in 1990 to celebrate Greg LeMond winning the 1989 World Championship while riding the same model. These bikes were sold through Ten Speed Drive. In 1990 they were the most expensive production bikes sold in the United States.
This particular bike was one that Greg Lemond rode and used for training in Lake Tahoe to prepare for the 1990 Tour de France.
I purchased it in the Spring of 2008 from Matt Mansur who was the Technical Director for the Team LeMond Cycling and Plymouth Reebok Cycling Teams (both owned by LeMond) during the 1989 and 1990 racing seasons. He maintained many of Greg's personal bikes, including this one. He acquired this bicycle from the LeMond distributor in Reno approximately a year after LeMond used it for training and owned it (and on occasion rode it) until he sold it to me. He is the same size as LeMond and got to ride a lot of his bikes when he worked for his teams.
The frame is a custom painted TVT with a 55 cm seat tube and 56 cm top tube with the typical laid back LeMond geometry. The fork is the correct Look model, but is not the original one that came with the bike when new. The bike is equipped with Mavic SSC components. The crank is the starfish Mavic SSC 53-39 175mm. The seat post is a Campagnolo 25mm C-Record. The bikes were spec’d with a Mavic seatpost, but due to availability issues with the importer (Sinclair Imports) most of the bikes came with this Campy post (which was also the post of choice of Greg LeMond on this bike). The bar and stem are Mavic SSC (44cm width 125 length). The wheels are 32 hole Mavic Mach 2 CD tubulars.
At the time of purchase in 1990 one could spec the bike in different ways. This bike was spec’d with the parts and sizes LeMond rode and won with at the Worlds.
I added the following NOS parts after I purchased the bike to return it to the original specs: Selle San Marco Rolls saddle in white, Sedisport chain, Regina freewheel, Mavic SSC 851 Pro rear derailleur (I bought this part brand new in the box more than 15 years ago from Bridgestone during a closeout and kept it in my bike parts stash waiting for the "right bike" to use it on ever since), Bike Ribbon bar tape in white, correct bottle cages, white lever hoods and Vittoria CX tires.
