Stage 5, 1952 Tour de France. Belgium's Robert Vanderstockt (of the Belgian National Team) finished 3rd on the stage, over 3-1/2 minutes ahead of race leader Nello Lauredi Of Italy (riding for the French National Team - go figure???). At first, Vanderstockt was presented with the winners bouquet, and donned the Yellow Jersey, but a few minutes later the times were re-calculated, and Nello Lauredi still held the lead, by just one second!
Vanderstockt is seen here in tears after being told he would have to return the coveted HD jersey... he would never again come so close.
