CYCLING UP TO DATE.
The Californias Will Have a Century Run Around the Bay To-Day.
Fairly good dressing rooms have been fitted up for the wheelmen in the bottom of the grand stand out at the Fair track, and Peter McIntyre, an old athlete, who has charge of the track, looks after them.
There will be about 200 entries for next Saturday's Midwinter Fair races. This will include most of the racing men in north California.
The first century club run of the season will be carried out by the California Cycling Club today, and members of other clubs have been invited to take part. The 100-milers will meet at the ferry for the 7 o'clock boat and take broad gauge train to Fruitvale, where the start will be made. The Reliance Club wheelmen have a run to San Jose, too, leaving their clubhouse in Oakland at 8 A. M., sharp, while many other wheelmen will take the ride down that side of the bay, so that the road will be full most of the forenoon. The Californias and those who wish to do the 100 miles will keep right on and come home on this side of the bay by way of Redwood City and San Bruno road.
Tho Reliance boys will banquet at the Vendome after riding to San Jose and will entertain the Garden City Cyclers' board of officers, after which they will have a run about "The Springfield of the Coast," visit the bicycle track and call on the Garden Citys and the Road Club.
The next regular meeting of the Olympic Club Wheelmen will be held Tuesday evening. The Olympics have a club run today to Salinas and beyond.
A number of local flyers are doing some training on the Midwinter Fair track, but find the rough surface a great drawback. A coating of clay or a little dirt and cement would put a good surface on the track.
