CYCLISTS FILL THE STREETS

GATHERING FOR THE BIG MEET AT SAN JOSE.

Prizes for the Clubs That Parade - Good Sport on the Track Expected.

Special Dispatch to the Chronicle.

SAN JOSE, September 8. - Never before had there been so many wheelmen in this city. To-night the streets are crowded with the riders of the silent steeds, who have come to take part in the parade of the California Associated Cycling Clubs to-morrow morning, and also to attend the races at the Garden City Cyclers' track in the afternoon and help cheer their clubmates to victory. Every train that has arrived to-day has brought hundreds of wheelmen from various parts of the State. Delegations from the Garden City Cyclers and the San Jose Road Club have met all the incoming bicyclists and given them a royal welcome.

This afternoon a watermelon run to Alum Rock Park was held. Many indulged in a plunge in the swimming pool.

The parade to be held to-morrow morning will probably be the largest ever witnessed in the State. Prizes have been offered for the club belonging to the California Associated Cycling Clubs having the largest number in line, worth $75. A prize of the same value will be awarded the club making the best appearance. In making the award, the uniform and position of the men and condition of the wheels will be considered.

For the club not a member of the association, having the largest number in line, a $10 prize will be given. As this is a competitive parade, the Garden City Cyclers stipulate that it is necessary that at least three unattached clubs compete for the special $10 prize, otherwise no award will be made.

Great things are expected of Wilbur Edwards at the race meet. Several attempts to break records will be made. In the tandem contest there are eight entries.
