LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL WINS RELAY RACE
TEAM HAD LITTLE TROUBLE IN OUTPOINTING OPPONENTS.
Beautiful Trophy Will Now Remain Permanently in Possession of Local Riders.
For the third consecutive year the San Jose High School bicycle relay team has won the 25-mile bicycle race under the auspices of the Academic League. The race was ridden yesterday afternoon on the Emeryville race track at Oakland. There was only one other contesting team and hat was the Polytechnic High School team of Oakland. The Oakland riders were not in the race at all. From the first the San Jose riders forged ahead and they continued to increase the gap until they crossed the tape three and one-half miles in the lead.
The riders who represented the San Jose High School were Gus Belloli, Hardon, Vincent, Dieffenbacher and Waibel. Belloli jumped his man at the start and gained a half mile before he had ridden his five miles. Hardon increased the lead to over a mile. Vincent followed in like manner. Dieffenbacher fairly flew around the track, making the fastest ride of the day. He covered the five miles in 14 09 1-5. Waibel, the last man, held his own without an effort and finished fully three miles and a half ahead of his opponent.

The judges of the course were W. J. McEnerney of the California Associated Cyclers, F. O. Reed of San Jose High School and Thomas Reeves of the Alameda High School. The referee and time-keeper was O. A. Hauser.
