Fifty-Mile Race Settled in First Relay When J. R. Berryessa Sprinted Away From His Opponent.

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 10. — The fifty-mile relay bicycle race today between the Garden City wheelmen of San Jose and the team from Reno, Nev., was won by the San Jose riders in 2 hours 12 minutes and 10 seconds. The race was settled in the first relay, when J. R. Berryessa of San Jose gained such a lead on Peckham of Reno as to leave little doubt as to the final outcome. Reno's time was 3 hours 14 minutes 12 seconds.
