THE annual 100-mile relay race around the bay is but five days off. Judging from the showing made by the Garden City Wheelmen in the past, they will probably carry off the honors Sunday. Captain Dermody has selected the following 10 men to represent the local wheelmen Sunday: J. Berryessa, R. Diefenbacher, S. Maggini, C. Showalter, P. Maggini, B. Murphy, W. Waible, Merle Grey, C. Burnett and W. Chaboya. All these youngsters have had previous experience in road racing. Many are known as being among the fastest amateurs on this coast.
The course of the relay is as follows: The start will be made at Larkin and McAllister streets, San Francisco. After leaving San Francisco the course runs south along the bay shore, passing through San Mateo, Menlo, Redwood City and Palo Alto. The remaining part of the week will be spent by the riders in hard training.
Oakland Wheelmen, Bay City Wheelmen, Eden Wheelmen, New Century Wheelmen, California Cyclers and Garden City Wheelmen have all entered teams for the big event. It is even rumored that the Capital City Wheelmen intend to send a team down from Sacramento Sunday. If the home team wins Sunday. It means the addition of another handsome cup to their already large collection of trophies.
