Bicycle of 1880 Vintage Given To Alameda's Historical Society

ALAMEDA, May 21. - Alameda's Historical Society has been presented its largest relic to date - an 1880 model, front wheel propelled "high wheeler," it was reported today by Everett Farwell, president.

Donor of the bicycle, a spindly affair that has front wheel five feet in diameter, is Mrs. John S. Edwards, of 2821 Marina Drive, who said the bike once belonged to her father, the late Oliver C. Haslett, and that it dated back to the '80s.

Mrs. Edwards said that the bicycle was in good condition and that her husband had ridden it in an Oakland parade two years ago. Manufactured in England, the bike has ivory hand grips.
